Google Analytics Consultancy

If you run a small business, you're probably in one of two places with Google Analytics. Either nothing is set up at all, or there's a GA4 account nobody quite trusts, with conversions that never show up, revenue that doesn't add up or figures that look suspiciously doubled. My Google Analytics consultancy covers both. I set GA4 up properly, fix what's broken and build reports you can actually use, so you can see what's bringing in your leads and sales.

It's a paid service, and you deal with me from the first call to the final report.

What Google Analytics Consultancy Means Here

Google Analytics consultancy with me, Chay Kelly, covers five things: GA4 setup and configuration, audits of existing accounts, custom reporting in GA4 and Looker Studio, training for you and your team, and server-side tracking. It's for UK small and medium businesses and in-house marketers who want tracking they can rely on.

You can pick one of these GA4 services or combine them, and whether I start with setup or an audit depends on where you are now. I'm a freelance consultant based in Suffolk and have worked in digital marketing since 2017. My Google Analytics consulting services sit alongside the rest of my digital marketing services, and you can read more about my background and how I work.

What You Get and Why Work With Me

Clemsons Vintage was a Shopify store I've done SEO for. I also set up their GA4 from scratch, with ecommerce tracking, revenue reporting by channel, content engagement tracking and a full sales funnel. I then built custom reports so the team could get to the numbers they needed quickly, and ran two training sessions to help them understand what the data meant and how to use it.

Lots of agencies and Google Analytics experts sell fixed packages, but I scope every project around your business and your goals. An online shop needs ecommerce and revenue tracking above everything else, while a business that publishes a lot of content will care more about which articles keep people engaged.

Here's what you can expect:

  • A free discovery call first, to talk through your goals, budget and timeframes.
  • A fixed quote for tracking setup, which I price as a one-off project, so you know where you stand before any work starts.
  • Plain English. I'll explain what your data means without jargon and be straight with you about what it can and can't tell you.
  • A reply within 24 hours at the latest.
  • Tracking built around the leads, sales and revenue your business runs on. I won't promise you vanity metrics.

GA4 Setup and Configuration

With a GA4 setup service, the aim is to get it right first time. I've looked at plenty of accounts that seem to be tracking fine on the surface, until you dig deeper and find missing conversions and duplicated data. The causes are usually mundane. GA4 gets installed twice, once through a theme or plugin and again through Google Tag Manager, or old Universal Analytics code gets left behind. Sometimes the events that matter fire correctly but were never marked as key events, so they never show up where you'd expect them.

Setup covers:

  • Account and property setup, configured to capture the sales, leads and engagement that matter to your business.
  • Events and key events for actions such as form submissions, purchases and downloads. If you run ads, a key event in GA4 only becomes a Google Ads conversion when you create one from it, so I make sure the right ones feed through and your Google Ads campaigns are measured against real leads and sales.
  • Ecommerce tracking, so you can see which products sell, how much revenue each channel brings in and where people drop out before they buy.
  • Data retention. GA4 can keep the detailed data behind explorations and funnel reports for as little as two months unless someone changes it to 14 months, and those are exactly the reports you'll want later.
  • Google Tag Manager where it makes sense, so your tags are managed in one place and fire once.

Google Analytics Audits

A Google Analytics audit is for when you already have GA4 but don't trust what it's telling you. I check:

  • Data accuracy, including whether each tag fires once and only once
  • Missing or duplicated events, from double installs to leftover code and extra data streams
  • Purchase revenue, so purchase events carry the right values and transaction IDs and your GA4 revenue lines up with your sales
  • Key events, and whether they're set up as conversions in Google Ads if you advertise
  • Settings left on their defaults, such as data retention

Afterwards I talk you through what I found and give you a plan of action based on your goals, so you know what to fix and why. I can then implement the fixes for you.

Sometimes an audit points towards server-side tracking, where your tracking data goes to a server first and is passed on from there instead of every tag loading in your visitor's browser. I build these setups, covering GA4, Google Ads with Enhanced Conversions, the Meta Conversions API with deduplication, and Consent Mode. Google lists better privacy controls, faster pages and better data quality as the main reasons to use it. It still relies on your visitors' consent and won't get round ad blockers. Vendors often quote big uplift figures, but those are a best case, so I won't promise you a number.

Custom Reporting and Training

GA4's standard reports can feel limited, and metrics like engagement rate and key events take some getting used to if you don't use the platform every day. I build custom reports in GA4 and Looker Studio around your own KPIs, so the numbers you need are there without any digging.

If I'm also working on your SEO or your PPC campaigns, your GA4 data feeds into the custom Looker Studio report and monthly meeting every client gets. These pull in Google Ads, Google Analytics and Search Console data by default, and I can add other sources.

Training is in person or online and tailored to your team, from the fundamentals for people new to GA4 through to more advanced use for teams that are already hands-on. After setup or an audit, I can stay on for ongoing support or leave your team to run with it, whichever suits you.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Does a Google Analytics Consultant Do?

A Google Analytics consultant sets up GA4 so it tracks the actions that matter to your business, audits existing accounts for missing or duplicated data, builds custom reports in GA4 and Looker Studio, and trains your team to use the data with confidence. Some, like me, also set up server-side tracking.

Who Is a Google Analytics Consultancy For?

Google Analytics consultancy suits small and medium businesses in three situations: you have no analytics at all, your GA4 setup is broken or incomplete, or you have data that nobody on the team fully trusts. It also suits in-house marketers who want an experienced second pair of hands.

Does Server-Side Tracking Replace Cookie Consent?

No. Server-side tracking improves data accuracy and gives you more control over what data leaves your website, but you still need a cookie banner and your visitors' consent. Google's Consent Mode only passes on a choice your visitor has already made, and server-side tracking doesn't get round ad blockers either.

How Much Does Google Analytics Consultancy Cost?

Every project is priced on what it needs, so there's no fixed price list. Tracking setup is quoted as a one-off fixed project, so you'll know the full cost before any work starts. After a free discovery call, I'll give you a clear, bespoke quote.
