Technical SEO Services

If Google can't crawl, render and index your pages properly, even your best content won't show up in search. My technical SEO services fix that foundation for UK small and medium businesses, in-house marketing teams and agencies. I find what's stopping search engines reaching and understanding your website and set out how to fix it. It's all part of my wider SEO services.

What I Offer and Why It's My Focus

Technical SEO and SEO strategy are the parts of SEO I'm most passionate about, and my route into them came through code. I've been in digital marketing since 2017 and an SEO specialist since 2019. At a B2B agency in Colchester I learnt HTML, CSS and JavaScript, and that's what led me into SEO. Later agency roles, with SEO as the focus, added PHP, so I'm comfortable working in a site's code.

The interest goes back further than work. I've built my own PCs and servers, tinkered with Raspberry Pis and overclocked CPUs, so pulling a system apart to find out why it's slow comes naturally to me. You can read more about my background and how I got into SEO.

As a freelance technical SEO consultant, I cover:

  • Crawlability and indexation
  • Site speed and Core Web Vitals
  • Site architecture and internal linking
  • Structured data and schema
  • Website migrations
  • International SEO

You can work with me in whichever way suits you:

  • One-off projects, such as a website migration
  • A technical SEO strategy for your own team or developer to carry out
  • Ongoing technical work as part of a full monthly SEO retainer

If you'd like a health check of your site before deciding, my SEO audit service is the place to start.

What Technical SEO Covers

Technical SEO is the work that makes sure search engines can crawl, render, index and understand your website. It covers how pages are discovered, how quickly they load, how the site is structured and linked, and the code signals that tell Google what each page is about.

Crawlability and indexation. This means making sure Googlebot can reach the pages you want found and skip the ones you don't, using robots.txt, XML sitemaps, canonical tags and clean status codes. JavaScript adds another layer. Google processes JavaScript pages in three phases: crawling, rendering and indexing, so content that only appears once scripts have run needs checking.

Site speed and Core Web Vitals. Google's Core Web Vitals measure loading, responsiveness and visual stability. A good result is a Largest Contentful Paint of 2.5 seconds or less, an Interaction to Next Paint of 200 milliseconds or less and a Cumulative Layout Shift of 0.1 or less, measured at the 75th percentile of real page loads. Google says Core Web Vitals align with what its core ranking systems seek to reward.

Site architecture and internal linking. A clear structure keeps your most important pages close to the homepage, gives them sensible URLs and links to them from the right places, so people and crawlers can both find them. On an online shop this overlaps heavily with ecommerce SEO, where category and product structure does a lot of the heavy lifting.

On a WordPress site, a lot of this crossover is with my WordPress SEO work, since plugins, themes and page builders all affect how cleanly a site can be crawled.

Structured data and schema. Structured data gives Google explicit clues about the meaning of a page, and the right markup can make your pages eligible for rich results.

Website migrations. This means moving to a new domain, platform or URL structure without losing the search visibility you've built up.

Migrations and International SEO

A website migration is one of the riskiest moments for your organic traffic, because any old page that doesn't point to its new equivalent can cost you rankings. Google's guidance on site moves and migrations says permanent redirects such as 301s don't lose PageRank. It also says that for medium-sized sites it can take a few weeks or more for the new URLs to replace the old ones in search, and longer for bigger sites.

A safe migration usually comes down to careful groundwork: mapping every old URL to its new home, checking redirects, canonicals, sitemaps and internal links before launch, then watching Search Console closely once the new site is live. I also support agencies with migrations and rebuilds on a white-label basis.

I've worked on international SEO campaigns too. Once your site serves more than one country or language, each market needs a clear structure. Google uses hreflang to point searchers to the most appropriate version of a page by language or region, and every language version has to list itself as well as all the others for it to work.

Who This Is For

My technical SEO services tend to suit three groups:

  • In-house marketers who need technical depth their team doesn't have, whether for a one-off project or on an ongoing basis.
  • Agencies that need white-label technical SEO support to cover a skills gap, staff turnover or maternity cover.
  • Small and medium businesses that need the technical foundation fixed before content or link building can pay off.

Every project starts with a free discovery call about your goals, budget and timeframes. If we work together on an ongoing basis, you get a custom Looker Studio report pulling in your Google Analytics, Search Console and rankings data, plus a monthly meeting to go through it. There are no long-term contracts. If search isn't the right channel for you, I'll say so and point you somewhere that is.

If you've got pages that won't index, a migration on the horizon or a slow site nobody has got to the bottom of, drop me a message and we can talk it through.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Is Technical SEO?

Technical SEO is the work that helps search engines crawl, render, index and understand a website. It covers crawlability and indexation, site speed and Core Web Vitals, site architecture and internal linking, structured data and website migrations, so the pages you care about can be discovered and shown in search.

How Much Does Technical SEO Cost?

Every technical SEO project is priced on what it needs, so there's no fixed price list. One-off work, such as a website migration, is quoted as a project. Ongoing technical work can sit within a monthly SEO retainer, where there are no tiered packages and the only thing that changes is how much gets done each month. After a free discovery call, I'll give you a bespoke quote.

Is SEO Still Worth It With AI Search Growing?

Yes, and the technical side matters as much as ever. Google says there are no additional technical requirements to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode. A page has to be indexed and eligible to show in Google Search with a snippet, the same as any other result. If Google can't crawl or index your pages, they can't appear in an AI answer either.
