Local SEO Consultant

I'm a local SEO consultant helping UK small and medium businesses get found by customers searching nearby on Google. That means showing up in the map results, in "near me" searches and in the ordinary listings underneath. I work on your Google Business Profile, your website and the rest of your presence online, with one aim: more calls, enquiries and visits from people close enough to buy from you.

What You Get With an Independent Local SEO Consultant

This service is for business owners and in-house marketers, whether you run a single shop, a trade business covering a handful of towns or a firm with several offices. I'm based in Suffolk, but I work with businesses anywhere in the UK.

You get the full local SEO service. I don't sell tiered packages, so every client gets the same complete approach and the only thing that changes is how much gets done each month, which sets the pace of progress.

There are no long-term contracts.

Here's what working with me looks like:

  • Direct contact with me. The person you speak to is the person doing the work.
  • A fixed monthly fee, so you know where you stand.
  • A free discovery call before anything starts, to talk through your goals, budget and timeframes.
  • A reply within 24 hours at the latest.
  • Plain English. I'll explain what I'm doing and why, without jargon.

I've been an SEO specialist since 2019 and in digital marketing since 2017, working at small, fast-paced agencies before I went freelance. I'm also Google Ads certified, and working across SEO and PPC gives me a fuller picture of what brings in calls, bookings and sales. That's why I won't promise you rankings for a handful of keywords. If SEO turns out to be the wrong channel for you, I'll tell you and point you towards someone who can help. You can read more about my background and how I work.

How I Approach Local SEO

Google says it ranks local results on relevance, distance and prominence: how well your business matches the search, how close you are to the person searching and how well known you are. Nobody can move your premises closer to every customer, so my work concentrates on relevance and prominence. Google is also clear that there's no way to pay for a better local ranking, which is worth remembering if anyone offers you a shortcut.

The work covers:

  • Your service area and locations. I start with where your customers are and how they search, whether that's "electrician near me" on a phone or a town name typed into Google at work.
  • On-page and local content. Your website should make it obvious what you do and where. That can mean sharpening your existing pages and, where they make sense, adding local landing pages for the towns you serve.
  • Citations and NAP consistency. Your business name, address and phone number (NAP) should match across your website, your Google Business Profile and the directories that list you. Mismatched details can confuse customers and search engines alike.
  • Reviews. Google counts your number of reviews and your rating towards prominence, so I'll help you build a steady, genuine habit of asking for reviews and replying to them.
  • Local link building. Links from local organisations, suppliers and press that show Google your business is known in its area.
  • Local pack visibility. The local pack is the map and short list of businesses above the ordinary results for many local searches, and it's where a lot of "near me" clicks and calls happen.

Every client gets a custom Looker Studio report and a monthly meeting. For SEO work, the report pulls in your rankings alongside Google Ads, Google Analytics and Search Console data by default, and I can add other sources such as email.

Google core updates land, competitors open nearby and the seasons change what people search for, so I keep my plans flexible enough to adapt.

Google Business Profile Optimisation

Google Business Profile optimisation means making your profile accurate, complete and active. It covers your business name, address and hours, choosing the right primary and secondary categories, listing your services, adding photos, publishing posts and managing reviews. These are the parts of local SEO most tied to the local pack.

Your profile is often the first thing a local customer sees, and Google's guidelines for representing your business are strict about how it's filled in. Your name should match the one on your signage and website, with no keywords added. Your categories should describe what your business is, rather than everything it offers, and your description can't carry special offers, prices or links. Getting these details right keeps your profile within the rules.

I treat your profile as something to keep working on month by month. That means keeping your details right when your hours or services change, making sure fresh photos and posts go up, and helping you stay on top of reviews, the glowing ones and the awkward ones. It's the kind of upkeep that's easy to let slide when you're busy running the business.

Local SEO and Wider SEO Work

Local SEO is one part of my full SEO service, which also covers technical and content audits, strategy, website migrations, international SEO and white-label SEO for agencies. If you'd like a one-off review of your website before committing to monthly work, take a look at my SEO audit. If your local business also runs an online shop, my ecommerce SEO service covers that side.

Frequently Asked Questions

How Is a Local SEO Consultant Different From a Local SEO Agency?

An independent local SEO consultant gives you direct access to the person planning and doing the work, with no account-management layer in between. An agency can offer a bigger team, which some businesses prefer, so it's a genuine trade-off. With me, there are also no long-term contracts.

What Does Google Business Profile Optimisation Actually Include?

It includes checking your business name, address, phone number and opening hours are correct, picking the categories that best describe what your business is and listing your services. It also covers adding photos of your work and premises, posting updates and managing reviews. Done well, it helps Google match your profile to the right local searches.

Do I Need to Be Based Near You to Use This Service?

No. I work with businesses anywhere in the UK from my base in Suffolk. Local SEO is about your location and your customers, so where I live makes no difference to how you show up in your area.

Is SEO Still Worth It With AI Search Growing?

Yes. Google says its AI Overviews and AI Mode rely on the same foundational SEO practices as the rest of Search, and a page has to be eligible for ordinary search results before it can appear as a link in an AI answer. Google hasn't said anything specific about local search, but it's reasonable to expect the same fundamentals to matter for both: an accurate Business Profile, consistent citations, genuine reviews and relevant content.

How Much Does Local SEO Cost?

All my pricing is bespoke and depends on how much work is needed each month. Every client gets the full service, and after a free discovery call I'll give you a quote for a fixed monthly fee. If you have a question first, drop me a message.
