I'm a freelance SEO consultant helping UK small and medium businesses, in-house marketers and agencies get found by the people searching for what they sell. You can bring me in for a one-off project such as an audit or a website migration, ask me to build an SEO strategy for your team to run with, or hand the whole thing over on a monthly retainer. SEO sits alongside the rest of my digital marketing services, including PPC, tracking and web builds.
What I Offer and Why Work With Me
A freelance SEO consultant makes your website easier to find for people searching for what you sell, then helps turn those visits into enquiries and sales. With me, that covers audits, strategy, implementation, monthly reporting and ongoing support, all handled by the one person you speak to each month.
I've been in digital marketing since January 2017 and an SEO specialist since November 2019. Before going freelance I spent my whole career in small, fast-paced agencies, working with everyone from niche B2B businesses to large B2C companies serving thousands of customers. There's more about my background and how I got into SEO on my About page.
A Personalised Approach
Every business is unique, even two in the same industry, so I don't work to a template. Some clients like to write their own copy from a content brief I put together, while others are too busy and would rather it all sat with me. I'll learn how you like to work during our discovery call and kick-off conversations, then shape my support around that.
Transparency and Reporting
Every client gets a custom Looker Studio report each month, pulling in Google Ads, Google Analytics and Search Console data by default, plus your rankings for SEO work. We then meet to go through it, talk about what's working and agree what comes next. If your tracking needs attention first, I can help with that through my Google Analytics and GA4 services.
I'll explain everything in plain English and tie it back to your own goals, so we're always speaking the same language. I won't chase rankings for a handful of keywords or other vanity metrics either, because the goal is more enquiries and sales from search.
Honest Advice, Even When Search Isn't the Answer
Sometimes SEO isn't the right fit for a business. When that happens, I'll tell you and point you towards someone in my network who's better placed to help, such as SWOT for social media, Uncommon Sense for CRM and email or Kreative Freedom for graphic design.
No Long-Term Contracts
I work on fixed monthly fees with no long-term contracts, so you stay because the work is paying off. I also reply to every message within 24 hours at the latest.
Support for Agencies and Freelancers
I work white label for agencies and other freelancers. For agencies, that usually means plugging a skills gap, covering while a team member moves on and you recruit, or providing maternity cover. For freelancers, it's about supporting each other so we can all take on bigger projects.

Proof and Specialist Capability
One of my clients, a heritage building materials manufacturer, had a product page that opened with the story behind the product. It was well written, but it asked new visitors to care about the history before telling them what the product did. I rewrote the top of the page to lead with the benefits, then A/B tested it against the original across just over three weeks. Sales of the product went up 49%, visitors were about 24% less likely to leave straight away and engagement rose by about 8%.
My ecommerce work has included SEO for a London mobility equipment retailer on Shopify. I've also done SEO for Clemsons Vintage, which was also a Shopify store, and set up their GA4 from scratch with ecommerce tracking, revenue by channel and a full sales funnel, so they could see which marketing brought in sales.
Technical SEO and SEO strategy are the areas I enjoy most, and I've worked on international SEO campaigns too. I'm also happy to roll my sleeves up and write content where you're short on resource.

SEO Services
SEO Audits
An audit shows where your site is falling short and what to fix first. I carry out technical, content and link audits, and I can review your website design from a search point of view. Read more about my SEO audit service.
Ecommerce SEO
Online shops have their own challenges, from category pages to product copy that sells. See my ecommerce SEO service.
Local SEO
Local SEO helps people in your area find you. It suits businesses with a physical location, such as gyms, restaurants and attractions, that want a local audience rather than a UK-wide one.
WordPress
I build WordPress sites as well as optimising them, so I know the platform from both sides.
Shopify
My Shopify SEO work has included both of the stores above, so I know how the platform handles products, collections and site structure.
Technical SEO
My route into SEO came through learning HTML, CSS and JavaScript at agency, so technical work is where I'm most at home. Making sure search engines can crawl, understand and index your site properly underpins everything else.
Website Migrations
Having spent years agency side, I know the damage a badly handled migration can do. There are a lot of moving parts, and without someone watching the search side you can end up with a lovely new website that nobody can find.
International SEO
International SEO is one of the less common projects I take on, but it can be a great way to grow, especially for online shops and manufacturers. It's never a small undertaking, and it's easy to get wrong.
As an international SEO freelancer, my first job is usually deciding how your site should be structured for each country or language. Google's guidance on managing multi-regional and multilingual sites sets out the main options, including separate country domains, subdomains and subfolders on your main site.
Then there's hreflang, the code that tells Google which version of a page to show in each country or language. It has to be set up carefully, because Google says if two pages don't both point to each other, the tags will be ignored.
SEO Strategy or Full Retainer
If you have people in-house to do the work, I can build a strategy for your team to run with. If you'd rather hand it over, a monthly retainer gives you ongoing support, with me doing the work and reporting on it.
White Label Support
I support agencies and other freelancers behind the scenes, from skills gaps to staff cover. There's more under Support for Agencies and Freelancers above.
How I Work
Discovery
Every project starts with a free discovery call, where I'll learn about you, your business, your goals, budget and timeframes, and whether search is the best channel for you. If it isn't, I'll say so and refer you to someone in my network.
Research
Once we agree search is the way forward, I start with keyword research, a review of your competitors, and content and keyword gap analysis to see where the opportunities are.
Strategy
As your freelance SEO strategist, I'll turn that research into a strategy built from the ground up around your website and your business. Without one, you're just trying different tactics and hoping something sticks.
Implementation
Once the strategy is signed off, I can do the work myself, from content and basic web development to the SEO changes themselves. I can also work alongside your in-house team or agency, such as your copywriters and developers, or keep your costs down by handling just the project management while your own team does the rest. If you'd rather take the whole strategy in-house, that's completely fine too.
That flexibility is a big part of what makes freelance SEO for small business owners work. There are no restricted packages, so a smaller budget still gets the full service, just at a steadier pace.
Review and Refine
Google keeps rolling out core updates, and what drives traffic and sales today might not work as well in six months' time. As your SEO freelancer, I'll keep on top of what's changing and adjust your strategy as your needs shift, and I'll always explain why.
Frequently Asked Questions
How Much Does an SEO Consultant Cost?
Every SEO project I take on is priced around what it needs, so there's no fixed price list. I don't sell tiered or restricted packages either. Every level gets the full service, and the only difference is how much gets done each month, so a bigger budget means faster progress. After a free discovery call, I'll give you a bespoke quote.
What Does a Freelance SEO Consultant Do?
A freelance SEO consultant makes your website more visible in search so it brings in more enquiries and sales. My work covers SEO audits, keyword and competitor research, strategy, implementation, ongoing retainer support, and a monthly Looker Studio report with a meeting to go through it.
Is a Freelance SEO Consultant Better Than an Agency?
It depends on what you need, but a freelancer like me gives you agency-level experience without the agency overheads, a personalised approach and direct access to the person doing the work. I spent my whole career in agencies before going freelance, so you get that experience with one person looking after your SEO from the first call onwards.
Can a Freelance SEO Consultant Support an In-House Team or Agency?
Yes. I can work alongside in-house marketers, copywriters and developers, or just project manage the SEO while your team does the work. For agencies and other freelancers, I provide white label SEO support to fill a skills gap or cover staff turnover and maternity leave.
